07.02.2012- Fashion Week Top Five: Paris SS12

Tuesday, 7 February 2012

This post has certainly been a long time coming, hasn't it?! I can only apologise for the delay, but can think of no better way to get ready for the spring than by looking back at my favourite of the SS12 collections from Paris: (I realise this is slightly ironic given that I'm putting this together wrapped in a blanket with ankle deep snow outside, but nevertheless!)
Another stunning collection from Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli at Valentino. I loved the unashamed romanticism of this collection, from the angelic plaited hair to the intricate cutwork which gave the looks a really antique feel. Demure and dainty- this show was my favourite from Paris.

The Louis Vuitton presentation was a riot of sheer girly style. Ornate flowers were a repeated motif throughout, and the whole collection felt like a homage to the ritual dressing up and childhood imagination- as reflected in the carousel set, vivid colours and cartoon-like appliqué detailing.

Riccardo Tisci's spring collection for Givenchy incorporated candy colours, sheer fabrics and perfectly cut pieces. I love the juxtaposition between androgynous tailoring and the feminine colour palette, which together created a really fresh, modern aesthetic.

Stunning dresses in an array of sparkling jewel tones and form defining shapes made the Elie Saab show one of the most glamorous from Paris. Perfectly sophisticated, elegant and chic, this was a collection of dresses made to grace the red carpet if ever I saw one.

This collection marked the start of a new direction for Dior, and encapsulated a vision of elegance which the label is so renowned for. Sheer fabrics, peplum hems and embellished details came together to create a series of classically feminine looks and marked notable a return to the label's Parisian roots.

Which shows did you like from Paris? And which spring looks were you most inspired by?
