02.06.2013- Most Wanted: Rodarte SS13

Sunday, 2 June 2013

If you follow me on Twitter, or have read a couple of my recent posts, then you'll know that I've developed a not so secret obsession with Game of Thrones. After devouring the box sets, I've been working my way through George R.R. Martin's books and have suddenly taken to using the expression 'Winter is Coming' whenever somebody chats to me about the weather. With the series proving such a massive cultural phenonemon, it's perhaps no surprise that the influence of all things Westerosi has stretched far beyond the reach of the Seven Kingdoms (I told you I was obsessed!)- particularly in terms of fashion. Now we all know that the top-to-toe black of the Night's Watch will never go out of vogue, but it's been really interesting to see the impact of a distinctly fantastical aesthetic on a lot of high fashion collections- mot notably Rodarte's offering for SS13:

The Mulleavy sisters are the undisputed queens of conceptual collections, and their spring presentation amalgamated a range of mythological and historical elements in an exploration of shape, craftsmanship and form. It's easy to see the influence of armour and metalwork here, and the rich hues of russet reds, teals,  slates and forest greens capture a beautifully majestic yet earthy quality. In terms of accessories, their dragon ear cuff has rocketed straight to the top of my wishlist (Team Daenerys!) and is a piece which is quintessentially cool. It's also really refreshing to see a more experimental approach to design take centre stage, injecting this collection with a sense of theme, theatricality and artistry.

Are you a fan of Game of Thrones? And what do you think of Rodarte's SS13 collection?
