11.09.2015- Denim Dreams

Friday, 11 September 2015

There are few fashion items which have become more ubiquitous or which have served to cement their enduring appeal in the same way that denim has. Whether it's the humble pair of jeans, or those cut offs which you pack in your suitcase year after year, it's fair to say that denim is an everyday essential which is more or less unrivaled in terms of universal appeal across the style spectrum. One of the lovely things about last season was seeing the reinterpretation of denim across so many different pieces, from dresses to jackets- and not since the days of Britney and Justin has double denim packed such a sartorial punch. So, with all things blue on the brain and the arrival of the new season, I've got my eyes on a crop of new styles which are guaranteed to prove instant wardrobe classics:

Dungaree Dress, £58, Olive Clothing/Utility Pocket Midi Skirt, £32, Topshop/Slim Boyfriend Jeans, £47.20, Boden/Denim Shirt, £19.99, Zara/Denim A Line Pinafore Dress, £30, ASOS/Denim Look Shirt Dress, £69, Cos/Angel Sleeve Dress, £45, Oasis/Denim Bib with Scallop Edge Detail, £10, ASOS

The denim dress is something which I've well and truly fallen for over the last few months, and this dungaree style from Olive is the perfect transitional investment. Tapping perfectly into a back to school, preppy aesthetic, it's also a versatile basic which would see you through winter in lots of different combinations too. A little while ago, I snapped up a denim skirt from Urban Outfitters in their sale, and whilst I'm yet to share it in an outfit post, it's well and truly become a firm favourite. For winter I'm seriously speculating on shopping for a darker wash- and this midi style from Topshop fits the bill perfectly. In my seemingly endless quest for the perfect pair of boyfriend jeans, I've added this pair from Boden to my shopping list, and can imagine them being ideal for styling with some super cosy knits as the chillier weather takes hold.

Speaking of chillier weather, I'm also on the lookout for some basic shirts to layer up, and Zara have got some brilliant buys in store at the moment. At only £20 this denim style is a complete steal, and definitely something to snap up before it disappears! Back to dresses once again, and this pinafore style from ASOS has been on my wishlist for an absolute eternity- and it would look lovely with a block colour knit too, don't you think? This shirt style from Cos is a a real investment purchase too, and would carry you right through until next spring in ultra-relaxed fashion. I spied this angel sleeve dress in Oasis last week, and it's definitely one which I'll be saving my pennies for, particularly as it taps into a distinct 70s feel- ticking two big trend boxes in one go! Finally, if you just want to add a hint of denim to some of your existing wardrobe favourites, then look no further than this scalloped collar from ASOS- the dream for popping under your winter woollies!

Have you picked up any denim pieces recently?
