14.05.2018- Beauty Buys: Short-Haul Skincare Heroes

Monday, 14 May 2018

If you've got already got a holiday in the planning or are just debating on where to head off to on a short break this summer, if you're anything like me then the chances are that you'll already be planning on how to make the most of the space in your carry-on bag! There's no doubt that shunning a bigger suitcase is a no brainier if you're heading away for the weekend or a mini-break, and since I've been doing it more regularly I've found it really liberating to streamline what I actually need to take away with me vs all of the superfluous bits and pieces which never see the sunshine. Gone are the days of coming home with suitcase full of unworn, pristinely folded clothes, substituted instead for a handful of versatile essentials which lend themselves really well to all eventualities. Similarly, over recent trips I've made a really concerted effort to only take toiletries which I know I'll end up using and which tick all of the right boxes, particularly as far as skincare is concerned. With that in mind, I'm already drawing up a list of the essentials to stash in my suitcase for my summer trips:

No matter whereabouts in the world I'm heading, it's a given that planes and I don't tend to get on all that well. Luckily I've never been a nervous flyer, but as I've grown older I've found that my system tends to go into overdrive when it comes to air pressure and extremes of hot and cold- usually resulting in a cracking sinus headache and feeling a bit more motion sick than is ideal upon landing! Whilst I'm still working on a solution to these gripes, I have found that keeping hydrated is always a winning idea, particularly if you, like me, find that your lips dry out almost the instant you taxi onto the runway. Eve Lom's Kiss Mix balm is a definite must-pack, both for using on the plane and once you make it to your destination- it's super long lasting and adds plenty of nourishment after every application. If you're jetting off somewhere warm, then you'd be hard pushed to go wrong with a compact powder from Chanel's Les Beiges ranges- perfect for both daytime and evening, and pocket sized too!

With space saving in mind, I always find myself stashing away lots of samples and testers in anticipation of short-haul travel. Perfumes, shampoos, conditioners- I've got the lot! This Pixi Glow Mud Cleanser is a leftover from Christmas, and one which I've deliberately held off of using up completely, especially as it's lovely and gentle, so ideal for helping with any sun-related sensitivity! Not wanting to digress too much from my usual routine, new to my toiletry bag this year will be Charlotte Tilbury's Goddess Skin Clay Mask- a real one hit wonder as far as achieving a natural, holiday ready complexion is concerned. This product has been a real revelation for me since I picked it up at the start of the year- so much so that now I can't imagine myself not using it. Finally, another everyday essential in the shape of Avène's Crème Hydratante- a moisturiser which I've now taken to using year round.

What are your short-haul skincare essentials?
